Assistant Conservator
National Museums Scotland
You will be responsible for practical and advisory conservation support to the Engineering & Furniture conservation section. Your priorities during the time leading up to the re-opening of the Royal Museum building will be on the Menu Wall Gallery and to be part of a team re-installing the five metre high Millennium Clock and associated technology objects.
You must have an appropriate degree and a further qualification in conservation or extensive relevant experience. It is vital that you have a strong theoretical understanding of material issues and treatments, and that you are an able, practical conservator having gained practical experience in a museums or similar environment. We would expect you to have experience or expertise particularly in metals conservation, with some experience of gallery / exhibition installation or decant of artefacts. Strong documentation and reporting skills are important, as is the ability to manage your workload to meet the deadlines for the display of objects.
This is a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2011. more
